Having implemented and reviewed a large number of ERP data capture systems there are number of key areas from which users can derive huge benefits:

1) Cost.

If you are moving from a purely paper based system there are a number of different cost savings benefits that bar-coding or RFID will enable:

• Speed of data entry
• Data accuracy and the resulting elimination of errors, and the savings associated with the reduction in management time chasing errors.

3) Quality Improvements

Often the quality improvements associated with ERP data capture systems are grossly underestimated. In a review we carried out the direct quality improvement was a major element of the cost justification associated with more than 60% of our customer projects.

The majority of these Quality improvements derive from embedding validation steps into the barcode scanning process. For example, if someone is to pick a pallet of goods, our handheld data capture solution may ask for a scan of one of the cases on the pallet.
